Modern developer secrets management practices that remove plaintext credentials and speed CFD iteration.
Identify savings to reinvest in car development and innovation to improve on-track performance.
Challenges
People think F1® has unlimited money. Cost caps mean that every license must be justified. We needed to see who was using what and make smarter decisions.

Group Head of End User Services at Oracle Red Bull Racing
- Hyper growth and proliferation of SaaS applications. The team expanded from about 200 people in two buildings to more than 1,800 across ten, with thousands of credentials in daily use, while cost-cap constraints require clear value for every license.
- Credential ownership and identity lifecycles. Rapid growth led to ad hoc credential sharing and limited visibility, making Joiner-Mover-Leaver (JML) events and audits challenging.
- Developer secrets management inefficiencies. Manual credential handling and inconsistent storage led to plaintext credentials being stored in code or ad hoc files, which slowed delivery.
Back when I joined, we had 200 people in two buildings. We now have 1,800 across ten sites. Complexity exploded, and with it, the need for visibility and control.

Fast, trusted sign-ins and clear ownership with shared vaults and audit trails
We had strong controls in place, but usability wasn’t great. When you slow people down, they find workarounds. 1Password gave us both security and usability.

The car that starts the season isn’t the car that ends it – there are constant iterations. The data and workflows around those iterations are our crown jewels. Many applications feed into those decisions, so having controls to ensure only authorized access, with accountability and auditability, is crucial. 1Password fits into our ecosystem, complementing the tools we rely on and giving us a unified view and the metrics we need.

Modern developer practices that remove plaintext credentials
With 1Password, we eliminated plaintext passwords in code. Developers now use secure references, which has been revolutionary for them.
